Wildlife rescue - Sauvetage

Today it's a stormy Saturday and we went for a walk long the Moreton Bay coastline in Shorncliffe.
It is so relaxing watching children playing, man fishing on the pier. Someone caught a baby shark today (25cm) and responsively put it back into the water.

Then from our morning walk we saw something barely swimming... a bird... a little tern. His body was under the water and he was struggling to keep his head out to breathe... and he was violently washed against the rocks because of the unusual strong waves. Stijn climbed carefully [heroicly braving the obvious danger :o)] down those wet rocks to catch him. The poor bird was exhausted and seemed grateful to be out of this dark situation. Unfortunately there was a reason why he was in distress: he swallowed a fisherman's hook... Poor thing! One more time a human was hurting an animal even without knowing it...

Suddenly we had people around us thanking us for what we were doing... People are nice but I'm still wondering why nobody else helped this poor animal before us... Luckily I remembered the emergency phone number for wildlife rescue from the RSPCA 1300-ANIMAL (1300-264625) who sent us to a veterinary 24/7 in Albany Creek. They took the suffering bird and wrote down its background. Who knows what his future will be... at least we have done our part and I need hope 'cause we would do it again.

Nous avons une tempête en ce samedi et nous sommes allés faire une balade le long de la côte de Moreton Bay à Shorncliffe. C'est relaxant de regarder les enfants jouer, de voir des hommes pêcher sur le pont. Quelqu'un a attrapé un bébé requin de 25 cm et l'a relâché, c'est responsable.

Soudain, nous avons aperçu quelque chose essayant de nager avec difficultés... une mouette, une terne. Son corps était sous l'eau et elle lutait pour garder sa tête hors de celle-ci... Les inhabituelles fortes vagues la projetait contre le mur de pierres. Heureusement Stijn escalada [héroïquement en bravant le danger au péril de sa vie ;o)] les rochers mouillés pour l'attraper. Elle semblait à bout de force et reconnaissante d'être sortie de cette sombre situation. Malheureusement la raison pour laquelle l'oiseau était en détresse était qu'il avait avalé une ligne de pêcheur... Pauvre animal! Encore une fois un humain était entrain de blesser un animal et sans en avoir la moindre idée...

Tout à coup nous avions des gens autour de nous nous remerciant pour ce que nous faisions. Les gens sont d'une grande gentillesse mais je me demande encore pourquoi personne d'autre n'a essayé de sauver l'animal avant nous... Une chance que je me rappelais du numéro d'urgence pour animaux sauvages 1300-ANIMAL (1300-264625) qui nous ont dirigés vers le vétérinaire 24h/24 à Albany Creek. Ils ont pris la mouette qui souffrait et notre déposition. qui sait ce que son futur sera... au moins nous avons fait notre part du boulot et j'ai besoin d'avoir espoir car nous recommencerons.
